Free Field Guide · Orcalynx

You describe it. Claude builds it.

No design software. No templates. You explain the carousel in plain English, Claude Code writes every slide as real code, and you shape it with feedback until it looks like you made it. This field guide walks you through the whole system: the setup, the build loop, the saved styles, and the rules that make a deck worth posting.

Section 01

The mental model

Claude Code is a workspace that lives in a folder on your computer. You talk to it in plain language, like briefing a designer sitting next to you. That is the whole interface. No canvas, no layers panel, no font picker.

The shift: you steer with words, not menus. You never pick fonts or drag boxes. You say “make the hook bigger” or “swap the cover photo for my portrait” and Claude rewrites the slides. Every carousel is a small web page, one html file with one slide per screen at 1080 by 1350. That is why it can be edited infinitely and exported as crisp images.

Your only two jobs

Describe what you want. Judge what comes back. Everything in between, the layout, the typography, the export, is Claude's problem. That is the entire skill of this workflow, and section 04 teaches it.

Section 02

One time setup

Get Claude Code as the desktop app, the terminal tool, or the VS Code extension. Then open a carousel project folder. The folder is the memory of the system. Four pieces inside it make the output feel like you, not generic AI.

Set these up once. Every future carousel inherits them automatically. Click through the tree below to see what each piece does.

Your brand voice, written down once

What it is

How you talk, the words you never use, and your CTA style. One file. Claude treats it as law on every carousel it builds.

Why it matters

Without it, every deck sounds like generic AI. With it, every deck opens in your voice before you type a single instruction.

voice.md excerpt

# Voice

- Speak as "we and our clients", never "I"
- Never write "follow for more".
  Always "follow @yourhandle"
- CTA is a comment keyword: "comment HOOKS"
- Lead with specifics. "388K in 18 months",
  not "huge growth"

Section 04

The build loop. The actual skill

Everything else in this guide is setup. This is the part you do every time: six moves, repeated until the deck looks right. Play it through below, then steal the habit that makes it fast.

Interactive Demo

Watch one full loop

One brief. One angle check. Seven slides. One round of feedback. This is the whole workflow.

Step 1 of 4: You brief it

You

Make a dark carousel about why most reels flop, for service based business owners.

01

Describe it well

Topic, audience, style, must say points. Better brief, better first draft. One good paragraph beats ten vague sentences.

02

Let Claude choose the angle

It states the framework and hook upfront, before building. Redirect now if it is wrong. It costs one sentence.

03

Preview every slide

Open the generated preview in a browser. Look at all of them. Never approve a deck you have not seen end to end.

04

Give plain English feedback

"Hook is too long." "Combine those two yellow boxes." "This slide is all text, make it visual." Claude edits the code. Repeat.

05

Export the images

Click download all slides in the preview, or ask Claude to render crisp 2X PNGs. Ready for Instagram at 1080 by 1350.

06

Caption and post

Claude writes the caption in your voice with the right CTA. You paste, post, and move on with your day.

Interactive Demo

Feedback in outcomes, not code

The one habit that decides how fast the loop runs. Flip the switch.

"Set line height to 1.1 and font size to 64px."

"Change the hex to #F4B840."

"Reduce the h2 to 2 lines and add a flex row of divs."

"Merge div.callout-1 and div.callout-2 into one grid cell."

"Set the img src to headshot-2.png with object-fit cover."

You are guessing at implementation details you do not need to know. Slower, and often wrong.

Section 05

Skills. Why output stays on brand

A skill is a saved instruction file that encodes an entire look and rulebook: colors, fonts, layout, voice, CTA style. Once it exists, you never describe that style again. You just name it.

The first time, you build one carousel you love by iterating. Then you say “save this style as a skill.” After that, “make a dark carousel about X” comes out on brand every single time. Here is an example library.

The signature

Your reels are not flopping.

carousel-dark

Cinematic warm black with amber accents. The signature look.

Daytime twin

Warm paper. Editorial.

carousel-light

Warm paper editorial. The daytime twin of the dark style.

You

@yourhandle

Hot take: your content is fine. Your hooks are the problem.

9:41 AM · 2.4K reposts

carousel-tweet

Slides styled as a tweet thread. Built for quick hot takes.

Client rebrand

Clean serif, one accent.

client-style

A client's clean serif look. Rebrand the color tokens and reuse everything.

In your project folder

Skills live under .claude/skills/ inside the carousel folder. Claude Code picks them up automatically.

On claude.ai

Upload the same skill under Settings then Skills. The same style works in the browser on any device.

Section 06

What makes a carousel good

Claude can build anything you describe. These rules decide whether what you describe is worth posting. Bake them into your voice.md and your skills so every deck follows them by default.

Voice rules

  • Lead with specifics. "388K in 18 months", not "huge growth".
  • Speak as "we and our clients", never "I", unless it is a personal story deck.
  • Never "follow for more". Always "follow @yourhandle".
  • CTA is a comment keyword like "comment HOOKS", not a link in bio beg.
  • No em dashes anywhere. Commas, periods, and colons only.
  • Never mention paid ads. Organic only.

Structure rules

  • Cover hook of about 8 words. One word highlighted. One idea.
  • The arc runs cover, setup, 3 to 5 visual points, framework, CTA.
  • 6 to 10 slides. Seven is the sweet spot.
  • Show, do not tell. Every body slide carries a real visual: checklist, comparison, chart, or mockup. Never a wall of text.
  • One idea per slide. Big type. High contrast. Assume a phone at arm's length.

Verdict

Answer all 8 to see your verdict

01

Cover hook

Does your cover hook fit in about 8 words, with one highlighted word?

02

Specifics

Does the deck lead with specifics like "388K in 18 months", not "huge growth"?

03

Visuals

Does every body slide carry a real visual, not a wall of text?

04

One idea

Is there exactly one idea per slide, in big type with high contrast?

05

Slide count

Is the deck 6 to 10 slides, ideally 7?

06

CTA

Is your CTA a comment keyword like "comment HOOKS", not a link in bio beg?

07

Voice

Do you speak as "we and our clients", and write "follow @yourhandle" instead of "follow for more"?

08

Clean copy

Is the copy free of em dashes, and does it never mention paid ads?

Want this done for you?

Our clients never touch this checklist. Every deck ships already passing it.

We design, write, and post carousels that follow all 8 rules, every week.

Section 07

The power tools

None of these are needed to start. All of them live in the same conversation, so the whole pipeline, research to render, never leaves one window.

Crisp render

Say "render these to PNG" and Claude takes 2X screenshots of every slide. Sharper than any browser download button.

A private gallery site

Claude can build you a private site that lists every deck you have ever made, so you can browse and download from any device.

Research skills

Pull competitors' best posts, mine viral hook templates, transcribe a reel. The research feeds straight into the next deck.

Custom props

When a slide needs an object that does not exist, Claude can generate an on brand cutout prop and drop it in.

Section 08

Do this now

Ship one carousel in ten minutes. Then make the highest leverage move in this entire guide: when a deck finally looks exactly right, say “save this as a skill” and never describe that style again.

0 of 5 steps complete0%

Open the folder

1 min

Open your carousel project folder in Claude Code. Desktop app, terminal, or VS Code. Any of the three works.

Type one sentence

1 min

Type: "Make a dark carousel about [something you know cold] for [your audience]." That is the entire brief.

Read the angle. Nudge if off

2 min

Claude states the framework and hook it chose before building. If the angle is wrong, redirect now. It costs one sentence.

Preview and send 3 tweaks

4 min

Open the preview. Look at every slide. Send three plain English notes like "hook is too long" or "make slide 4 visual."

Download slides and caption

2 min

Click download all slides in the preview, or ask Claude to render crisp 2X PNGs. Grab the caption. You are done.
