Getting good metrics but still not growing?

Most accounts with solid numbers are losing followers at the profile — not the reel. We fix the full system.

The 5 Metrics That Matter

What each number actually means.

Instagram Insights shows you raw numbers. Here is what those numbers are telling you — and what to do with them.

Share Rate

Most Important

Shares ÷ Views × 100

Viral Push2%+
Growing1–2%
Limited0.2–0.9%
Dead<0.2%

Share rate is the single most predictive metric for viral reach. Every share signals 'this is worth spreading' — the algorithm distributes in proportion to this signal. 2%+ is where 100K+ views become likely.

Save Rate

High Impact

Saves ÷ Views × 100

Excellent2%+
Strong1–2%
Average0.5–1%
Weak<0.5%

Saves signal lasting value. When viewers save a reel, they're treating it as a resource — the algorithm reads this as high-quality, practical content. Educational and framework-based reels consistently outperform on saves.

Like Rate

Supporting Signal

Likes ÷ Views × 100

Excellent2.5%+
Good1.5–2.5%
Average0.5–1.5%
Low<0.5%

Likes matter less than shares or saves for distribution, but a very low like rate (under 0.5%) is a signal of viewer mismatch. Your hook is attracting the wrong audience, or the content isn't delivering what the hook promised.

Comment Rate

Supporting Signal

Comments ÷ Views × 100

Exceptional1%+
High0.5–1%
Low0.1–0.4%
Minimal<0.1%

Comments signal depth of reaction — people cared enough to type. High comment rates often come from opinion-based or polarising reels. Adding an explicit CTA ('comment your biggest struggle below') consistently doubles comment rates.

Non-Follower %

Algorithm Stage Indicator

Non-follower views ÷ Total views × 100

Stage 5 — Viral92%+
Stage 4 — Broad Push80–92%
Stage 3 — Explore Push65–80%
Stage 1–2 — Followers Only<65%

Non-follower % tells you exactly which algorithm stage your reel reached. Below 65% means the algorithm never distributed it. 92%+ means it hit the global Reels tab. Every viral reel in our dataset had 87%+ non-followers.

Key finding: Every reel that hit 40K+ views had a share rate above 0.9% and non-follower % above 87%. Share rate is the clearest predictor of algorithmic distribution — more than likes, comments, or even engagement rate.

Algorithm Stages

5 stages. One number tells you which one you hit.

Non-follower % is your stage indicator. The higher it is, the further the algorithm pushed your reel beyond your existing audience.

S1

Followers Only

<50% non-followers

Algorithm tested this reel with your existing followers only. Low signals (shares, saves) caused it to stop here.

Rethink the hook angle. Followers already know you — non-followers need a reason to stop scrolling.

S2

Limited Explore

50–65% non-followers

Minimal non-follower push. The algorithm tried a small test batch outside your audience but didn't get strong enough signals to continue.

Improve share and save rate. Add tactical value or a shareable opinion that non-followers would want to spread.

S3

Explore Push

65–80% non-followers

Real non-follower distribution. You've passed the first major test — the algorithm is pushing this to the explore tab and Reels feed.

You're in the growth zone. Analyse what's working in this reel's hook, angle, and format and replicate it.

S4

Broad Distribution

80–92% non-followers

Major push. The algorithm has distributed this reel broadly across the Reels tab. This is where follower growth accelerates.

Double down on this content format, hook style, and topic. Create more in this vein within 48 hours while the algorithm is warm.

S5

Viral Distribution

92%+ non-followers

Full global push. The algorithm is distributing this reel beyond niche, beyond country. This is the top 1% of reel performance.

Post a follow-up reel within 24 hours to capture the follower surge. Reply to every comment. Pin the best comment.

Want this done for you?

Want someone to analyse your reels and build a system that actually grows?

We handle the strategy, scripting, and editing. You focus on the business.

The One Rule

If you only fix one metric, fix your share rate.

Every reel in this dataset that crossed 40K views had a share rate above 0.9%. Every reel stuck below 5K had a share rate below 0.3%. Likes, comments, and saves matter — but shares are what trigger the algorithm to push beyond your followers.

Create shareable opinions

Reels that make people say 'I have to send this to someone' get shared. Polarising, relatable, or surprising angles work best.

End with a share prompt

A simple 'Share this with someone who needs to hear it' at the end of a reel has been shown to increase share rate significantly.

Match the hook to the emotion

Shares are driven by emotion first. Hooks that trigger curiosity, recognition, or validation produce the highest share rates.
